Encountering God’s Heart for You contains 365 short daily devotionals.  Some devotions cover a single chapter in the Bible while others are for multiple chapters.  These devotions are quick to read and would be great for a new Christian or someone who wants a quick devotional to read.

This devotional is not one that should replace daily Bible reading but is perfect for a quick read.  I think it would be perfect as a start to your daily devotional time.  At the beginning of each day is a short passage of Scripture along with the reference for the chapter for the day.  So check out this devotional for yourself.

I received a copy of this devotional for my fair and honest review.

More from Diane

Twenty years ago, I was invited to join a women’s Bible study group planning to read through the Bible in a year to get to know God.

Although I’d been a Christian for many years and had read many parts of the Bible and used the Bible in my work as an editor, I had never actually read the entire Bible.

I joined the group. We read about three chapters a day and met weekly on Monday nights to discuss what we’d read.

I’ve repeated that experience in various forms most years since then, and it has changed my life in so many ways. (Getting to know God does that, right?)

I’m convinced that one of the most loving things we can do for someone else is to invite and encourage her to become a lifelong reader of the Word, and to read it together.

That’s how I view my new devotional, Encountering God’s Heart for You. It’s an invitation to every woman to pick up her Bible, read along with me, and look together for all the ways God teaches us about himself on every page.

This is the fourth book in a series, and to my recollection, I have not read the other books in this series.  While this book can be read alone, I think it definitely loses something without having the context of the earlier books.

Preparing for a wedding should be a joyful and wonderful time in a woman’s life, but that is not the case when a serial killer with ties to Josie’s past appears.  The descriptions of the scenery and the mansion they were staying in on Maui for the wedding were captivating.  But I felt a certain disconnect to the story because I had not read the other books in this series.  I definitely feel this book would be best read in order with the other books in the series.

With Josie trying to ensure a happily ever after and find her place with God, I think this book is worth reading.  So check it out for yourself.

I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

More from Catherine

In writing my Jo Oliver Thriller series, I find myself driven by passion. The genesis of the series—Cleansed By Death—was fueled by a passion to create a story about strong women embedded in a male-dominated profession, facing difficulties they could only solve through faith and community. I was vacuuming when I was hit by the idea of pitting two strong women against each other and seeing which one would win, the theme of book 2, Shattered by Death. Information gleaned during an FBI writers workshop on techniques for tracking criminals, superimposed over the mitten map of Wisconsin formed the bones for Anchored By Death, the third book in the series.

My latest novel, Capsized By Death, contains all of my favorite elements. The astute series reader will note that the foundation for the killer’s appearance in this book was introduced years ago in Cleansed By Death. But he first appeared to me during one of my many solo writing vacations on an island.

At the end of a fairytale day spent kayaking, snorkeling and listening to the sound of whales singing under water in Maui, the gorgeous male host of my day trip stood silhouetted in the setting sun. This man was beautiful in every way, and had the sort of personality that describes the essence of attractive—he pulled you into his beautiful ocean world. At that moment, I knew I had found my perfect killer for my next book! It became my goal to create a killer who was beautiful on the outside and evil on the inside. I used the New Testament book of Jude as my guide for the internal workings of my killer and thus the skeletal framework for Jude, my killer in Capsized By Death—book 4 of the Jo Oliver Thriller series—was born.

About the Author

CRW_2024 copyAward-winning author of the ground-breaking Sword of Lyric series, Sharon Hinck is a wife, mom, and recent grandma, has an M.A. in communication, and has served as the artistic director of a Christian performing arts group, a church youth worker, and a professional choreographer, and an adjunct writing professor. To learn more about her writing, visit her at www.sharonhinck.com.

More from Sharon

Have you ever felt that nothing you do is ever enough? Not good enough? Meaningful enough? Do you ever think that if you could be more perfect, all your problems would be solved? In my new novel, I explore a character whose entire culture tells her that she must achieve perfection – and that answers to her world’s problems rest solely on human effort. Set in an imaginative fantasy world, I hope her journey will ring true for readers in our world.

I’m so excited to finally be able to share my new novel, Hidden Current, with readers. Can you see me Snoopy dancing?

And speaking of dancing …

What inspired this new series?

Years before I wrote my first novel, I worked as a dance teacher, choreographer, and artistic director of a Christian dance company. So, when my agent and I were discussing ideas for my next book, he said, “In all your other novels, you’ve never drawn from your experience in dance. I’d love to see you create a brand-new fantasy world and utilize dance in some way.”

I began mulling the idea, and within days, a character had come to life.

In my new novel, Hidden Current, the dancers of the Order direct their floating world with their movements but are steering it toward destruction. One lone dancer fights to overcome opposition from rim villages and treachery from the all-powerful Order and bring a forgotten truth to her people.

Is this part of a series?

Yes, but this is a stand-alone story. That means that although I’ve written more books with these characters, you don’t have to wait for the series to release, fearing an unresolved ending to book one. The story is complete of itself, with just a hint of the next adventure to follow. I’ve already done my revisions on the second book and have finished writing book three. J

Why should I order soon?

This is being released in limited edition hardcover. That means when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Is this similar to the Sword of Lyric books?

Yes and no. It’s not a “portal fantasy” – no modern-day character visits this world. However, like my other fantasy series, the book was inspired by spiritual themes, delves deeply into the heart of a character that many of us can relate to, and paints a unique story world full of both beauty and dangers. I’m so excited for its release!

Review and Giveaway for The Choice Is Yours

About the Book

Book: The Choice is Yours

Author: Barbara Dahlgren

Genre: Religion/Christian Living/Devotional

Release Date: November 2019

Front cover The Choice Is Yours

Do you stress over making decisions? Does the possibility of making the wrong choice paralyze you? In The Choice Is Yours: 52 Choices for Happier Lives, Barbara Dahlgren explores decisions we face daily. She does so with the spiritual insight and practicality developed through fifty years of ministry. The Choice Is Yours is drawn from Dahlgren’s blog, Barbara’s Banter: taking my faith but not myself too seriously, and is suitable for a devotional or a Bible study tool. Each chapter includes practical suggestions, a key Bible verse, and the option for the reader to jot down their own tips for making better choices in daily life.

Click here to purchase your copy.

The Choice Is Yours illustrates the importance of personal Bible study from the beginning of the study. Containing 52 different choices, this book lends itself to either personal study or small group study.  I definitely see the benefits of doing it either way.  With Scriptural references and space at the end of each selection for reflection on what you have read, this book definitely is on worth taking time to study.

Rather than providing complete Scripture passages, parts of the Scripture are provided so the reader is encouraged to pick up their Bible to finish reading and therefor encouraging taking time to intimately interact with the passages.

I definitely recommend this study because as Christians we are faced with a multitude of choices each day.  God wants us to make personal choices that reflect His love for us and the desires He has for us.

So check out this book for yourself.

I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

About the Author

Barbara Dahlgren.1

Barbara Dahlgren is a humorist, freelance writer, and speaker whose articles have appeared all over the world. Married to a pastor, she and her husband have served churches in Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky, Washington, Michigan, and California where they currently reside. She blogs at Barbara’s Banter: taking my faith but not myself too seriously and is the author of Zorro and Me, a humorous look at the couple’s adventures in ministry.

More from Barbara

When my granddaughter was in preschool, she came home one day and was sad. Her mom asked what was wrong. Sophia replied, “My teacher said I didn’t make good choices today.”

I always felt her teacher had a great deal of wisdom. Instead of saying Sophia was naughty or bad, she planted a seed of thought into her little life about making better choices. Better choices lead to happier lives. In a way, that was the inspiration for my latest blog theme which led to this book.

My first book was called Zorro and Me. It was about my husband, whom I’ve nicknamed Zorro, and our experiences in 50 years of ministry. Usually known as a humorist, I try to intersperse a lot of personal experiences in my speaking and writing. My philosophy is to take my faith, but not myself, too seriously. I think we would all be happier if we chose to laugh more and criticize less.

Here’s a little quiz to get to know me better. Which one do you think is false?

  1. I was born many years ago in the foothills of the Ozarks in a town with a population of 10.
  2. While on a mission trip to Nigeria, our children were held captive by the police for a few hours.
  3. My son was unexpectedly born in a hotel room while we were traveling, so we used a dresser drawer as a baby bed.
  4. I’ve mounted a camel near the Great Pyramids in Egypt, climbed the Great Wall in China, leaned with the Tower of Pisa in Italy, and been on safari in Kenya.
  5. While on a teen trip touring the White House, one of my children became ill, so the Secret Service took him outside where he barfed behind a big bush on the White House lawn. It’s the one on the left when you look at pictures of the White House.

Guess what! They are all true. There’s more, but I don’t want to give all my secrets away today.

Strands of Truth kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time I was reading it.  I found it difficult to put down and basically read the entire book in one sitting.  Harper quickly became a character I wanted to get to know and learn more about.  Orphaned on the day of her birth, she first lived with her grandmother and foster homes that both left Harper searching for someone to love.  Oliver, Harper’s mentor, and friend, became the perfect father figure for Harper, even though his own two children felt otherwise.  At first, I did not care for his son or daughter.

But as I kept reading and began to understand where Ridge and Willow were coming from in their opinions.  However, I never learned to like Ridge and Willow’s mother.  She seemed to be a cold and hard woman who basically poisoned the mind of her daughter.

Annabel, Harper’s half-sister, comes into the picture and I was glad they both had each other.  Annabel’s children, especially her son who was a police officer, added authenticity to this story.  He provided an interesting angle to what I was reading.

Trying to discover their father leads Harper to meet interesting people from her mother’s and Annabel’s mother’s pasts.  I wondered several times who was behind everything, but until almost the end I was not able to decide anything for certain.  The only thing I knew for sure was I wanted Ridge and Harper to become a couple.

This book is full of intrigue, danger, and suspense.  Why is someone trying to kill Harper, Oliver, and Annabel?   Who is behind the actual murder attempts?  The flashbacks to the past about

Truly, this is a book worth reading.

Book: Zoey:  Meet the Misfits & Zoey: Odd Girl Out

Author: Melody Carlson

Genre: Middle grade fiction for girls

Release Date: April 15/ August 15, 2019

Zoey’s pretty sure her life is over when her wannaba-rockstar mother uproots her from from their home in Seattle and deposits her in Nowheresville, Oregon to live with her whackadoodle grandparents. Things start to look up, though, when she reconnects with Louisa, the girl from across the street. Maybe, just maybe, Louisa won’t mind that Zoey’s always been a bit of a misfit. Louisa’s ex-BFF, however, doesn’t seem too happy to welcome Zoey to the neighborhood. And when they all end up at church camp together, it’s not just a matter of whether or not Zoey can fit in…it becomes a firsthand lesson in what it really means to “love your enemy.”

When the school year begins, Zoey’s terrified to go without Louisa—who’s out with a nasty flu. The same enemies she made over the summer are there to haunt her, but she and another new girl stick together…and even seem to find a place among the in-crowd. But is this who Zoey wants to be? Are they really her friends? Who’s going to stick beside her when cyber bullying leaves her as the odd girl out?

I love reading books from Melody Carlson.  As someone whose family moved around a lot when I was growing up, I was excited to read these two books.  While they are geared for middle school girls, there are points we can all learn from.  I have to say these two books did not disappoint.

As someone who did not feel like I belonged growing up, I can appreciate these stories.  Being the new kid is hard.  Being around mean kids (and some kids are just mean) makes it even harder.  I feel like Melody Carlson did an excellent job of conveying the feelings a preteen girl might have when she is the new kid.  These two books work hand-in-hand to tell the story of Zoey.

Making enemies always makes things more difficult.  Plus, enemies have a way of constantly showing up.  These two books illustrate that point.  Many children/preteens/teens do not like new kids entering their territory.  I have experienced it firsthand.  I feel Melody Carlson did an excellent job of connecting the two stories into one overall story that is worth reading.

So if you are looking for excellent books about the preteen years, check out this series for yourself.

I received a copy of these books for my fair and honest review.

About the Author

melody-carlson-1

Melody Carlson has written more than 200 books for teens, women, and children. That’s a lot of books, but mostly she considers herself a “storyteller.” Her young adult novels appeal to teenage girls around the world. Her annual Christmas novellas become more popular each year. She’s won a number of awards (including RT’s Career Achievement Award, the Rita and the Gold Medallion) and some of her books have been optioned for film/TV. Carlson has two grown sons and makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband and yellow Lab dog.

More from Melody

Being a tween these days is more complicated than ever. With our culture’s fast pace, social networking, peer pressure . . . growing up is hard to do. So I wanted to create a relatable character with some tough challenges. And Zoey Petrizzo definitely gets more than her fair share. About to start middle-school, Zoey is forced to relocate her life with her less than conventional grandparents. And it’s not easy! My hope is that readers will either relate to Zoey, or develop more empathy for ‘misfit’ kids like her.

Termination Dust captured my attention from the moment I began reading the book.  My heart broke for Kimmie and her brother Pip.  With the death of their mother and an abusive father, I knew they needed to escape.  Alana Terry did an excellent job of bringing the characters and story to life.

Full of danger, mystery, and more, this book has a lot to offer readers.  Kimmie demonstrated faith and dedication to keep her younger brother safe.  Mystery surrounds the death of their mother and people come along to support and help them.

The one person in the story I was not sure about was Kimmie’s older sister Meg.  She seems to be the unknown quantity in the story.  Flirting with State Trooper Taylor Tanner, she lost my respect since Meg is married.

But all in all I enjoyed the book.

I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

About the Author

alana-terry-150x150

Alana is a pastor’s wife, homeschooling mom, self-diagnosed chicken lady, and Christian suspense author. Her novels have won awards from Women of Faith, Book Club Network, Grace Awards, Readers’ Favorite, and more. Alana’s passion for social justice, human rights, and religious freedom shines through her writing, and her books are known for raising tough questions without preaching. She and her family live in rural Alaska where the northern lights in the winter and midnight sun in the summer make hauling water, surviving the annual mosquito apocalypse, and cleaning goat stalls in negative forty degrees worth every second.

More from Alana

Something some of my fans may not know about me is while I grew up in the continental United States, I have made my home with my husband and children in Alaska for many years now. I have grown to love Alaska, which is probably why I was so excited to write this series about the Alaskan wilderness to share a bit of my favorite parts of Alaska with my readers.

In Alaska, we have a phrase that perfectly describes the fall season: Termination Dust.

That’s when the first snow falls on the mountains, signifying the end of summer. Fall in Alaska is beautiful. Orange on the tips of the trees lend a splash of color against the backdrop of unending green. For the first time since May, it gets dark enough to see the stars. If you brave the cold and happen to be awake at 1 am, you might even see some shooting stars.

I hope you enjoy reading about Kimmie and her autistic brother as much as I enjoyed writing their story. As with all my suspense novels, if you like determined characters, harsh landscapes, and faith under fire, get ready to dive headfirst into a gripping adventure today!
