Imagine living with a mother who appears to be weak and a stepfather who resonates with anger and stays drunk. This set of circumstances faces Tess, and on her seventeenth birthday she flees for her life by jumping on a train she believes will take her east. Unfortunately, she winds up further west instead in Laramie. This book illustrates the best and worst in human nature. It also shows God’s grace and mercy. It also shows how God has a perfect plan for our lives, even when we can not recognize it.
Brett Calloway takes Tess into his home, and she finds him stealing a part of her heart. I appreciate how she seeks God’s will for her life. I also appreciate the description of the town, the people, and Brett’s special place where he goes to commune with God.
The men in this book who resonate with goodness and God’s presence in their lives make this book worth reading. The men who resonate with evil and anger portray that fact well. I have to say, I definitely enjoyed reading this book. I think one of my favorite parts comes from Brett Calloway’s mother and sister arriving in Laramie.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
