Today is the fourth day of my 31 Days of Five Minute Free Write Prompts, and the word for today is “Listen”. Listening is an art form that many of us fail to excel at either occasionally or routinely. As a mother, I frequently am reminded by my children that I need to take time to listen.
Other times, I listen with ease and have no problem concentrating on what is being said. Other times, like when I am trying to listen to hear God’s voice, I have a hard time hearing.
A few weeks ago our washing machine died, so this means we have to go to the laundromat currently to wash our clothes. Because my husband has drills/Battle Assembly with the Army Reserves this weekend, we decided to go to the laundromat today. While we were there, a man who had just opened a protein shake/smoothie business came in the laundromat and was peddling his business. So several of us had to listen to what he had to say. One of my sons wound up in a rather lengthy discussion with him because our son did not agree with everything he said. Another of our sons proceeded to tell said son that you always agree with that type of person so you can essentially escape quicker.
What comes to mind for you when you hear the word “listen”.
