About the Book

Book: The Amish Widow’s Rescue

Author: Rachel J Good

Genre: Amish Romance

Release Date: May 28, 2019

2The perfect family awaits…if only he’ll risk his heart.

Pregnant and recently widowed, Grace Fisher is determined to provide for her family on her own. Thankfully, her jam business is popular in her Amish community. But it’s difficult keeping up with her work, her farm chores, and her two mischievous children. Especially now that they’ve taken to idolizing their neighbor Elijah. While the handsome farmer is kind and generous, he seems intent on holding Grace and her little ones at a distance…

Elijah Beiler has always admired his neighbor Grace. So standing by while she struggles to support her family isn’t an option. Offering to take over her farm duties, Elijah is determined to help while remaining detached. He knows all too well that love only leads to heartbreak. Yet the more time he spends with Grace and her children, the harder he finds it to leave each day. But can Elijah overcome past hurts and open his heart to this ready-made family?

“A beautiful story of forgiveness and second chances.” -Shelley Shepard Gray, New York Times bestselling author, on The Amish Teacher’s Gift

I have always loved reading Amish fiction and since our family spent several years living in an area with an Amish community that appreciation for these stories has grown.  So when I received the opportunity to review this book, I was happy to have this opportunity.  Grace Fisher and her children have endured a lot at the hands of her husband and their father.  They fear him with good reason.  But when he dies unexpectedly, Grace and the children face new challenges and opportunities.

Elijah, a confirmed bachelor, and basic recluse, finds himself helping Grace and her children since he lives next door to them.  From the moment he enters the house to help when Melvin apparently falls, he makes what could be normal assumptions about their circumstances.  My heart broke from the fear and trials Grace and her two children endured.

I wanted Elijah and Grace to move past their heart-breaks and find what love should truly be.  The story kept my interest and Grace’s determination to provide for her family inspired me.  Elijah deserved to find love and happiness.  The relationships that developed between him, Libby (Grace’s daughter) and Levi (Grace’s son) brought the story to life.

So if you want to read a book that includes a mother’s love, family relationships, and second chances, check out this book for yourself.

I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

More from Rachel

The story idea for The Amish Widow’s Secret came to me after I’d just finished reading stories to my Amish friend’s children to give her a little break. She was expecting a new baby, and while we sat in their kitchen enjoying a snack, her husband came in.

The tenderness in his eyes as they talked made my eyes well with tears. It was obvious how much they loved each other, and they both supported each other. A perfect companionship. Not everyone gets to experience that bond, that caring.

It made me wonder what she’d do without him, and the seeds of a story was born. I decided to explore how a widow would cope with a pregnancy and two children alone. In the Amish community, of course, no one is ever left on their own. Everyone chips in to help.

So, what if the handsome and reclusive bachelor next door felt obligated to help, but wanted to avoid getting involved? Would he eventually soften his heart toward children and love?

As I wrote, I wondered if Elijah Beiler could get over a previous heartbreak. He needed to face his past before he moved forward, so I gave him that opportunity. A surprise visit and unwelcome news force Elijah to rethink everything he believes about parenting and love. And about the person who destroyed his world. He also needs to face the bitterness he’s been harboring.

Sometimes learning more about the circumstances or reasons of the person who has hurt us causes us to see the whole situation in a new light, making it easier to let go of the hurt. That’s what happens to Elijah.

I hope his journey will encourage readers to consider the places in their lives where they’ve been holding onto pain and reevaluate those experiences in the light of God’s forgiveness and love. To write this story, I needed to do that too.

Four years after the death of her beloved husband, bookstore owner Elizabeth Roberts still struggles to sustain her faith and joy in the Lord as she raises her two sons. She strives to find a way through her family’s grief, never suspecting a man from her past might offer hope for her future.

Restored is a touching and compelling look at love lost, lives lost, and then finding a future.  Steven Moore and Elizabeth Rogers once were in love and planning on getting married.  But then their circumstances changed and they went their own ways.  Years later after the death of Elizabeth’s husband Chris and a diagnosis of cancer for Steven, the two meet again.

Steven has given up on living and is preparing to die.  But God has a funny way of interfering with what man plans.  Years earlier, Chris had asked Steven to be his “kinsman redeemer” like Boaz was for Ruth in the Bible.  If anything happened to Chris, he wanted Steven to marry Elizabeth and take care of her and their children.

But Elizabeth and Steven had a rocky path to taking a chance on love and making a future together.  The realism of the storylines and character, especially Elizabeth’s children Luke and Chris lend authenticity to this book that many other books miss.

So if you want to read a book that may make you laugh, cry, and more, check out this book for yourself.

I received a copy of this book for my fair and honest review.

More from Tanya

RESTORED is the second book in the Unending Love series. It’s a story I wanted to write, one I knew I could write, but still, it took six years to write. Not that it was difficult, but something was missing.

A friend and I attended the Blue Ridge Mountains Christian Writers Conference, and during the conference, we discussed RESTORED. We came up with different plots, but nothing felt right.

I decided then to take a hiatus from contemporary romance and to begin writing another genre I’ve always loved, historical romance. While doing research and working on my historical romance novel, doctors discovered I had cancer.

There are many times in a person’s life where he or she may reach an obstacle. It may be an illness, an accident, a difficult decision that must be made, or any number of other things. I’d reached that point in my life. It was a defining moment, not only dealing with my cancer prognosis, but asking the Lord if He truly called me to write as I thought, or was I mistaken. I stuffed my historical romance novel away and almost gave up on God’s call to write.

But through the fears and searching for God’s direction, I learned He did indeed place this desire to write on my heart and no matter what I was facing in my life, it didn’t diminish His call. I’m inspired by the Lord to write inspirational Christian fiction so people may know the love of Christ. To know the depth He will go to have a relationship with us. And though we struggle, He uses us—ordinary people like me—to do out of the ordinary things. Unexpected things—like writing. This propelled me to write RESTORED.

I began pouring into RESTORED the knowledge I’d gained through my own experiences and that of my stepfather and father-in-law, who were both diagnosed with melanoma. I know now that if I had written this story any earlier in my career, I wouldn’t be on such a personal level with my characters nor could I have written it from the heart.

I love this story. I love my characters, Steven and Elizabeth. RESTORED is about lost love being given a second chance when you least expect it. A story of how nothing is impossible with God.
