#Write28DaysChallenge – Day 1 of My Homeschooling Helps, Hints and Resources

Copy of 28 Days of

For the next 28 days, I will be participating in the #Write28Days challenge.  My topic for this challenge will be all about homeschooling.  From hints, helps and resources, I will delve into our homeschooling journey.  For today, the first resource I want to share is Cathy Duffy’s Top 102 Picks.  This site, the book and the lady herself are all amazing and provide an incredible wealth of knowledge, suggestions and helpful information. Whether you are just starting out or a homeschooling veteran, Cathy Duffy has something for everyone.

When we first began our homeschooling journey over 13 years ago, I essentially knew nothing about homeschooling.  The only thing I knew for sure was it was our only option for our oldest son who was in fifth grade at the time.  I was blessed to have a group of wonderful women in a local homeschooling group to find out information, resources, and ideas from at the time.  Cathy Duffy was one of the most amazing resources I found at the time.

From the moment I opened the book, I loved how she immediately helps the reader determine their homeschool mission, teaching style along with their children’s learning style.  From there curriculum choices are provided that allow the reader to decide what is right for them.

The website provides a more interactive way of looking at the curriculum choices.  But I definitely recommend reading the book prior to using the site, since it allows you to have a better idea of what you should be looking for as far as your own family.  To this day, I refer to the website often because every child learns differently and has different needs.

I have been blessed to meet Cathy Duffy at one of the many homeschooling conventions our family has attended over the years.  She is as incredible in person as I was told so many years ago.

So if you have not discovered this site, the book or the lady, go on a journey of discovery for yourself.  I would love to hear what you think.

#FiveMinuteFriday – Where?

where

Today for the first time, I am joining the @FiveMinuteFriday community and blogging about “Where?”  Where is the place our family has had the most memories and how did it begin?

My “where” is Busch Gardens in Williamsburg, Virginia.  My husband took me there for our honeymoon in 1992.  That is over 26 years ago.  Where has time gone?  Through the years, our family has made many trips back to the theme park.  We have enjoyed the shows, the foods, and the rides.  Stepping into the shows always brings a smile to our faces.  On one of our most memorable trips, we enjoyed a special dining experience with some of the members of one of the shows.  It was fun watching our children participate in songs and dances with the cast members.

Going there brings back memories of the days I spent working at Carowinds on the North Carolina/South Carolina border during high school.  Truly, it was a memorable experience for me.

While we are in Williamsburg, our favorite place to stay is definitely the cabins at Fort Eustis.  Being in the military has its advantages.  One of those is being able to stay at the two-bedroom cabins with a loft, full kitchen (minus dishwasher), a screened in porch along with a deck that goes almost all the way around the cabin.  The views are spectacular as are the memories our family has made.  Thanks for stopping by.  Click here to visit other members who are writing today or to join up with your own #FiveMinuteFriday post.

I would love to hear about what your “Where?” is and why.
